Team Meerendal endured a trying day during Stage 2 of the 2015 Absa Cape Epic in the Elgin Valley.
With the rain clearing up overnight Stage 2 saw Team Meerendal tackle 92km of riding and 2300m of climbing during a windy day.
The highlights of the day include Milena Landtwing and Hielke Elferink of “Team Meerendal Wheeler Cannondale” finishing 4th and Esther Süss and Alice Pirard of “Team Meerendal Wheeler” finishing 5th in the Women’s Category.
Bärti Bucher and Heinz Zörweg of “Team Meerendal BIXS KTM” finished first yet again in the Grand Masters Category to continue their assault on the Grand Masters title.
Jochen Käss and Daniel Geismayr of “Team Meerendal Centurion Vaude” finished 7th in the Men’s Category.
The day will however be remembered for the setbacks that two of our teams endured. Daniel Gathof and Lucien Besancon both withdrew from the race leaving their partners Laura Turpijn and Konny Looser to continue their Absa Cape Epic alone as Outcast riders.
Stage 3 is the longest Stage of this year’s race and will see the Riders take on a distance of 128km and 2300m of climbing as the race heads towards its next destination – Worcester.
